This paper analysis the wide range of risks, also known as the attack surface, that make them inappropriate as a smart home “hub” (computer) solutions. This analysis is a relative comparison to more mature professionally developed equipment. The point of this research is for those considering new solutions and finding a lot of underdeveloped products on the market which seem good but lack a hardened and tested hardware/software basis.
